International Minjar Fair Concludes, CM Participates in Shobha Yatra

Chamba: The famous week-long international Minjar fair of Chamba concluded with much fanfare, gaiety and religious fervour on Sunday with Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur leading the concluding ceremony procession (Shobha Yatra) that started from Akhand Chandi Palace to Manjri Garden to immerse the Minjar (golden tassel) in a traditional manner in the Ravi river.The Chief Minister led the colourful Minjar procession of the deities accompanied by dancing troupes, traditionally attired locals, tourists, traditional drum beaters along-with Police and Home Guards bands. He offered the Minjar consisting  of a coconut, a coin, a fruit, and a few sherfs of paddy tied in a piece of red cloth, to the Ravi river.


Urban Development Minister Sarveen Chaudhary, Deputy Speaker Hansraj, MLA’s Pawan Nayyar, Vikram Jaryal, Jia Lal Kapoor and Jawahar Thakur, District BJP President D.S Thakur, Chairman Kangra Central Cooperative Bank Dr. Rajiv Bhardwaj and other prominent leaders of the district accompanied the Chief Minister in the procession. Earlier, the Chief Minister witnessed wrestling bouts at the historic Chaugan and distributed prizes to the winners. 

Jai Ram Thakur earlier in the day laid foundation stones and inaugurated developmental projects worth Rs. 30.56 crore for Chamba town which include laying of foundation stones of PG Block of Government Degree College Chamba to be constructed at a cost of Rs.8.71 crore, sewerage scheme Obri, Maika-Bag and Sultanpur of Chamba town to be constructed at a cost of about Rs. 14 crore and inauguration of administrative block in Police Line Complex Chamba constructed at a cost of Rs. 4.25 crore. This complex has been completed in a record time of eighteen months and inauguration of replacement of old gravity pipeline of water supply scheme to Chamba town completed by spending an amount of Rs. 3.60 crore. This would benefit about 25,000 population of the town and provide 31 lakh litres water per day.
