CSKHPAU to speed up research work on Sheep and Goat

Palampur : The CSK HP Agricultural University will speed up research work on sheep and goat. This was disclosed by Prof. HK Chaudhary, Vice-Chancellor while chairing a joint meeting of the scientists and officers from Dr.GC Negi College of Veterinary and Animal Science (COVAS) and HP Wool Federation. Prof. Chaudhary said that COVAS has got specialization in preparing high quality animal feed and there was a need to establish a modern demonstration farm on sheep and got in the University. Similarly, a wool testing lab was also required to fetch good wool price to the sheep and goat farmers. He sought financial help from the wool federation to establish these facilities. Vice-Chancellor also elaborated about the top quality of meat of these animals as they graze in alpine pastures.

Trilok Kapoor, Chairman, HP Wool Federation, told that there were eight lakh sheep and eleven lakh goats in the state, and twenty thousand families were engaged in rearing these valuable small animals. He asked the veterinary scientists to develop a vaccine for foot rot disease of small ruminants and conducting research and extension education activities. He told that training for sheep-goat farmers will be organized in January-February 2021. Dr.Mandeep Sharma, Dean, COVAS elaborated about the existing research facilities in his college. Some Heads of the Department made presentations. Dr.Y.P.Thakur, Director of Extension Education, Dr.Sandeep Mishra, Assistant Director, State Animal Husbandry Department and Deepak Saini, Manager, H.P.Wool Federation also participated in the meeting.
