ICAR accredits CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University with ‘A’ grade till 2023

Palampur: The Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) has accredited CSK Himachal Pradesh Agricultural University with ‘A’ grade.According to Prof. H.K.Chaudhary, Vice-Chancellor, the fresh accreditation till March 2023 will improve the prestige and recognition of this hill farm University. He said that the faculty and non-teaching staff deserve appreciation for putting in hard work to fulfil the mandate in academics, research and extension activities. The Vice-Chancellor expressed his gratitude to the Governor of Himachal Pradesh and Chancellor of the University Shri Bandaru Dattatreya for his incessant guidance and encouragement along with generous support of the Govt. of Himachal Pradesh under the dynamic and the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Shri Jai Ram Thakur. He also thanked the ICAR and other funding agencies for helping the University in maintaining consistency in its performance.

Prof Chaudhary said that accreditation with an ‘A’ grade will enable the University to receive an enhanced grant from the ICAR and other funding agencies. It will also help in attracting meritorious students from all over the country and the rest of the world. The ICAR nominates foreign scholars and students from all over the country to the accredited institutions only.Being expert in adeptly handling various international collaborations and having rich experience of working with the developed world, Prof Chaudhary is committed to utilize his expertise in connecting this mountain institution with various premier institutions across the globe. It will widen the horizon of the agricultural sciences and create unique opportunities for the faculty and mountain students to move with high precision cutting edge research.

The Vice-Chancellor said that some new initiatives have been taken to bring excellence in academics, accelerate need-based research and add skill component in all extension education programmes. Already, steps have been taken to involve farmers in major programmes of the University with due recognition to progressive farmers. He said that he is looking forward to improvement in the COVID situation so that the scientists and extension staff may visit farmers at their doorsteps and all farmer oriented programmes are also organized on their farms. Strenuous efforts are afoot to make the Farm Varsity a Green Clean Campus.

The ICAR peer review team minutely studies the self-study report submitted by the University and later verifies all parameters including academic achievements by the students, experiential learning programmes, laboratories, veterinary clinics, etc. The ‘Certificate of Accreditation’ by the National Agricultural Education Accreditation Board of the ICAR was received recently by the University.
